Along with the growth, the city of Hutto has seen an increase in the number of people running red lights.
Last week the city council passed an ordinance allowing red light cameras at two of the busiest intersections in town. Highway 79 at Exchange Boulevard and 79 and North FM 1660 will be monitored from three different directions.
Violators will receive a citation and a picture in the mail.
"We're gonna give a thirty day grace period once we're up and running. They'll just get notices and warnings and then we plan to go live on 9-11," Chief Harold Thomas, Hutto Police Dept. said.
The cameras will be installed in early August. The Federal Highway Administration said red light cameras reduce the number of accidents by 40 to 90 percent.
