Add Casselberry to the cities that aren't waiting for the state Legislature to pass a bill to allow cameras to catch red-light runners at intersections.
Like Orlando and Apopka, Casselberry is heading toward using a code-enforcement violation to fine vehicle owners $125. That's a great proactive approach.
It's obvious to many communities in Florida that there's a problem -- and that red-light cameras are a great deterrent.
Of 907 accidents in Casselberry in 2007, 407 occurred at intersections. Not all of them were caused by red-light runners, but the logic is simple:
Streets will be safer and people will be more mindful of what they're doing. Red-light cameras will help that focus. Let's hope the Legislature figures that out soon.
